WyoTech welcomes students from all over the country. With only 5% of our student body coming from in-state, Wyoming becomes home to many students from across the nation for the 9 months they spend at the technical school. For many students, the thought of being that far away from home can be a deterrent in their decision to come to WyoTech. However, current WyoTech students discovered there was many more pros than cons in the decision. Zachary Seyer, from Colorado, says he was drawn north to Wyoming because there are less crowds and he wanted to get away from the cities. Jerica Jay, a Diesel student from California, talks about her decision to relocate for 9 months to attend WyoTech- “I chose to come to Wyoming for school because it’s a beautiful state, I’ve always wanted to come out here, and this school is fantastic.” Riley Edwards moved to Laramie from Central Utah for a similar reason. “I think it’s a beautiful state, the school is only 9 months and I like how it functioned and how in-depth we went in with the curriculum.” Students from Oregon and New Mexico said they had heard from the industry how good the school was, and decided it would be worth the decision to come out here for the short period of time that the school took.
WyoTech also has students from the east side of the country. Jonathan Brown, from Virginia, speaks to the in-depth training in the short time period, as well as the opportunity to get a fresh start and try something new. Chance Stacy, Georgia, said that he came to Wyoming to explore and see different places. He recommends that other people considering coming to WyoTech do the same. A student from Pennsylvania tells people considering the school to “Just do it, because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and from here you can go almost anywhere in the world with your career.” Josh Peterson, from Orlando, Florida, offers similar advice-“Get out of your comfort zone. There’s a lot of things to do out here. The opportunities may not come to you, you have to go find them, but it will be amazing.” Logan, from Hawaii, says that the relocation will be hard at first, but after a little while he got used to it. “The homesickness will fade after a bit, and the experience is definitely worth it.” Another student jokingly says, “The only advice you need is bring your four-wheel drive! That’s all you need to know.”
