Alumni Spotlight- August 2023

Casandra Perez Santiago has utilized her WyoTech education in her career in multiple ways.  From Reno, Nevada, she had a happenstance run in with a WyoTech alumni while she was working at Walmart.  After asking him some questions on his experience at the school, she enrolled shortly afterward in the Diesel, Advanced Diesel, and D.A.T.E programs.  Graduating from WyoTech in 2015, she is using her education at Swift Transportation.  She is now the leader of 4 other technicians, with a team that is currently expanding.  “With my knowledge and skills that were taught at school, like navigating OEM websites, parts diagrams, etc., I am able to assist my techs with repairs, schematics, service instructions, software programming and then ordering said parts without having to rely much on our vendors.”  She talks about her part in opening a new shop location in Las Vegas.  “Building a team, developing them to be successful has been my favorite project by far.” 

Casandra speaks about how her education at WyoTech affected her as a person.  She speaks to the accountability it taught her, and how it taught her the self discipline she needed to get out of her comfort zone and learn to be a leader.  She tells those who are looking into or attending WyoTech to “take in all the knowledge you can from instructors and the classes, and make sure you have fun while doing it.  Never lose track of your goals, and aspire to be the best version of yourself every day and pass that on with your fellow technicians.”
